Camp070 - Zanzibar Islands

Camp070 - Zanzibar Island - Zanzibar archipelago!

Zanzibar Island is the crown jewel of the Zanzibar Archipelago, rich in architecture, exotic spice farms and echoing with centuries of history. Its name is misleading however: Zanzibar Island is actually called Unguja Island, which together with Pemba and Mafia islands, constitute the Zanzibar Archipelago. An idyllic beach holiday island with wonderful charisma, coconut palms and powder-soft coral sands washed by shimmering clear sea. Zanzibar beaches are among the best in the world and have a very special charm; views from the palm-fringed sands reveal the hand-sewn sails of traditional wooden fishing dhows, and ocean explorers discover the glorious depths of thriving coral reefs all around.

Zanzibar's brilliant white beaches lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean provide the perfect place to relax, soak up the sun and take a break from some busy sightseeing. The beaches in Zanzibar are a paradise, interspersed with picturesque fishing villages, where the people live a simple way of life, unchanged over the years. There are more than 25 fantastic beaches in Zanzibar, and some are so peaceful and remote that the only noise breaking the silence is likely to be the ocean.

Zanzibar's local people are an incredible mixture of ethnic backgrounds, indicative of her colourful history. Islam is the dominant religion, and practiced by most Zanzibaris, although there are also followers of Christianity and Hinduism. Population is estimated at 800,000, with the largest concentration being Zanzibar City which has approximately 100,000 inhabitants. Zanzibaris speak Swahili (known locally as Kiswahili), a language which is spoken extensively in East Africa.

A holiday on Zanzibar would be incomplete without the famous Spice Tour. We have developed a special Spice Tour with in depth information not only about spices, but also organically grown herbs and a detailed description about their traditional uses in medicinal cosmetics of cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper and many other spices which the Sultans of Oman introduced centuries ago. Moreover, you can choose among different environmental and cultural friendly tours to the highlights Zanzibar has to offer, like the historical City Tour through fabled Stonetown, the Dolphin Tour, a visit to the Jozani Forest with the endemic Red Collobus Monkey or you can explore remote islands on a local fisher boat in the protected Menai Bay.
